about the artist

Hello. I’m Kristi.

Thanks for stopping by! I’m Kristi, the artist behind kitz.studio.

I studied traditional art in college but opted to take my career toward digital endeavors. Thus I’ve spent 20+ years designing for the web and am currently employed as a full time UX designer.

I am excited to once again be creating art in the physical world after a long hiatus!

about kitz.studio

Inspired by nature and pop art kitsch

Pop art is about breaking the boundaries between “high” and “low” culture. It is bold, colorful, and challenges convention.

I aim to bring that same playful rebellion to my artwork. Why can’t a bear be painted in tropical colors? Art doesn’t have to be so serious.

about the name

What’s the story behind the name?

The name kitz.studio has a few points of significance.

First, it’s a nod to pop art’s love for kitsch. I thought it would be funny to give my work a label that sometimes carries a connotation of bad taste… or at least a tone of irony.

Besides that, it’s also a joke that was born out of a misinterpretation of my very messy signature. My name is Kristi, but my signature looks like “kitz.”
